About:

Ricky Hell & The Voidboys were formed in Cleveland, Ohio by Quality Time Records founder Ricky Hamilton in 2017. The group features Adam Spektor on clarinet, longtime collaborator Carter Luckfield on bass & microbrute synthesizer, as well as recent addition John Alberty. Prior to John’s arrival the group used a simple yet effective drum machine that ran on batteries. In 2018 Ricky relocated to Los Angeles which has driven their already pop centric brand of punk further in the direction of groups like The Primitives & cited influences of Sarah Records and Postcard Records, albeit, they more accurately sound like St. Valentine Records dug up some tapes of The Reactions with drum machine.

On the new album, “L’Appel Du Vide,” Ricky Hell & The Voidboys honed in their more psychedelic & experimental influences on, “Satan Of Cool,” to produce a cohesive and concise 12 song 12” 45rpm. Their first single from the record, “Strychnine,” is a dark and icy love song dripping with nostalgia as Ricky & vocal collaborator Nat Cherry sing in tandem on the hook creating an atmospheric guy/girl vocal that soothes underneath the dark lyrics hidden behind the texture. Overall the record is a welcomed addition to the art pop lexicon without leaving its punk sensibilities behind, and fans of Ricky Hell & The Voidboys as well as Ricky’s related projects can look forward to 12 new confectionery songs with universal themes and the potential to provide the backdrop to any nostalgic night.
